Synopsis

Cannabis by Sarah Lennard-Brown

Cannabis is the most widely taken drug in the world, with approximately 144 million people having taken it. An illegal, class C drug in the UK, this book looks at the history of cannabis, and investigates what it is made from, and how it is taken. It also explores the effects of cannabis on the mind and body, from short-term effects such as impaired judgement and increased heartbeat, to long-term effects such as lung disease. With photos, case studies, glossary, resource section and index.>

Reviews

A very carefully measured text... Throughout the book [the author] balances the arguments for and against the use of cannabis, before finally summarising the negative impact of cannabis, and saying 'no'. The book is particularly informative on the social and spiritual issues surrounding the use of cannabis in some cultures and also celebrates the versatility of the plant... The photographic material... does serve to make the book very approachable... A useful title to encourage discussion debate in KS3 and 4. - School Librarian
