It also looks at the changes to work and transport: the factory system and working life for men, women and children; the growth of industrial towns, ships and seafaring, rail travel, seaside holidays and entertainment; the impact of railways and the building of factories on the local area.

About the Author

Jane Goodwin read English at Swansea University and then pursued a career in education. She has been a teacher for 12 years and is interested in how children develop as literate members of the community.
