Synopsis

I Don't Believe it, Archie! by Andrew Norris

Odd things happen to Archie every day. Some very odd things. On Monday, a piano rolls down the hill and traps his new friend Cyd in her mum's car. And then a lorry tips a load of gravel on top of it. At least Cyd finds it exciting. Though of course she doesn't believe that this sort of thing happens to Archie every day. Until Tuesday, when Archie finds a dead dog in his pocket ...Poor Archie. But as he soon discovers, if odd things have to happen to him, it's a lot better if they happen when Cyd's around. Join Archie and Cyd for a whole week's worth of completely surprising and outrageously funny escapades.

This is a hilarious story - you won

- and a piano rolls down the hill - then a car rolls out of control - and gets buried in a heap of gravel... all this in the first few pages, so you can get an idea of the mayhem in store. And that's just Monday, and the reader is in for a full week of hilarious adventures, all illustrated with a light touch and great humour. Parents in Touch A whole load of unbelievable and outrageously funny things happen to Archie in the course of a week in this entertaining book for independent early readers. -- Philippa Logan Oxford Times It's reasonable, uncomplicated, and - in Norriss

- makes for a very entertaining book. It would be easy, given the premise, for the author to go completely overboard and introduce aliens, magic; and zombies; but he takes the sensible course of sticking to the believable but highly unlikely...My own chidren loved the story...I loved it too - it's funny, clever, and well-written. -- John Dougherty Awfully Big Reviews
