Synopsis

Jonathan Cleaned Up?Then He Heard a Sound or Blackberry Subway Jam by Robert Munsch

Jonathan's efforts to keep his apartment clean are foiled when a tube train unexpectedly stops in his living room and unloads thousands of passengers. Jonathan sets out on a surprising adventure to solve this curious problem. This book is both silly and fun. Children will love the story of a boy who could not clean his room thanks to crowds of strangers arriving - and whose mother does not believe him! It is classic Munsch - an improbable situation featuring useless adults, an impossible mess and a silly solution devised by the child.

Reviews

Particularly effective is the scene where Jonathan bribes the caricature of a Victorian clerk ... the pictures carry the story very well. Fascinating... not only traces the evolution of jeans, but it provides a cultural and social history... well-written, engaging. Colorful... Kyi organizes a good deal of information and communicates it clearly, though with a decidedly informal tone... approachable look. Informing and entertaining...will lead teens...to an understanding of the multiple movements, events, and attitudes that surround the enduring jeans. Well-documented facts as well as entertaining trivia sidebars... a readable and engaging text... excellent recommendation for historical or cultural assignments.
