The King's Panto by Martin Coleman

The King's Panto by Martin Coleman

'The King's Panto' is a modern story with a traditional feel, about a bossy, grumpy King who shouts orders at everyone around him. When he commands a Royal Pantomime in the middle of summer featuring all the characters from well known fairy tales , it soon becomes clear he has barked one order too many! With no time for rehearsals, no script and no audience, the panto begins in chaos and ends in disaster! And with the Giant about to eat the King in a pie! But the King puts right some old wrongs, learns some very valuable lessons and becomes a much nicer, friendlier person. Packed with theatrical references and expressions, 'The King's Panto' is a fun, rhyming romp of a read for children and parents alike.

'The Kings's Panto has classic written all over it - it's witty, well written and beautifully illustrated. Martin Coleman is clearly a great writer who knows how to tell a good story. His book is immaculately crafted and Martin is totally in tune with the audience he is writing for - my son loves it! The team within the in-house production wing of CBeebies are very much looking forward to an opportunity to work with Martin as a script writer. (Tony Reed, Executive Producer, CBeebies In-house Production, BBC). I thought The King's Panto was superb! Great for bedtime stories. I really liked it! (Stephen Mulhern, Britain's Got Talent). Just finished reading The Kings Panto to my children. I loved it and so did the kids, can't wait for the next book by the talented writer Martin Coleman. Illustrations are fantastic too! (Dominic Wood, Dick and Dom). James and I are so impressed, we love it! It's really great and a lovely story, very creative with brilliant characters. Ella will LOVE IT! X. (Jenni Falconer, TV Presenter). A wonderful, gorgeous book, a magical story. Every home should have one - and some day probably will! (Paul Weller protegee [The Jam, Style Council, solo artist] and radio presenter Tracie Young). A Christmas pressie must-have!

!! (Hannah and Stephen Graham, actors, This Is England, Pirates Of The Caribbean). The King's Panto is totally original and grabs your attention from the very start. There are witty rhyming couplets to make you laugh and familiar characters from your favourite tales for all the family to enjoy. A wonderful imaginative story - oh, yes it is! (Colleen Daley, the voice of Fizz from Tweenies). As a father, I feel it is very important to read to our children from an early age. The Kings Panto has everything a child wants from a story. A fantastic, bright, colourful and interesting read for all children, very highly recommended. A great book! (Jimmy Constable of 911).

's Panto today and keeps playing it again and again while having the book on his lap. We both loved it. I know I'll be watching it again in the morning! (Lee MacDonald, 'Zammo'

. I believe The King's Panto is a fabulous way to introduce young ones to many a favourite character from the worlds of childrens

're all here in this delightful tale. The story is lovingly told in rhyme with great wit by the author, Martin Coleman and Tim Slater's illustrations have a charming simplicity to them. In fact, the book's accompanying animated DVD really evokes the nostalgic joy of a David McKee cartoon (Mr Benn, King Rollo) and all those afternoons after school came flooding back. (Paul Putner, BBC's Little Britain, Rock and Chips, Stuart Lee's Comedy Vehicle).'
