Monster Science Pack B by Mark Weakland, Jody Jensen Shaffer, Christopher L. Harbo, Anthony Wacholtz

Zombies, werewolves and vampires may be undead but that doesn't exempt them from the laws of science! Capitalize on children's fascination with all types of monsters and aliens with this creative, hilarious but absolutely fact-filled look at important scientific concepts. Each vignette uses a monster and stylish, comic-book-style illustrations to show the hows and whys of science.

About the Author

Gervasio began studies in 1993 under teacher Horacio Lalia, a well-known comic artist in Argentina and Italy. After studying four years with him, Gervasio founded an independent label called La Productora (along with many colleagues and friends). They put out 16 books, and their material was published in Spain, USA, France, and Brazil. As a kid, Carlos Aon wanted to be an inventor and illustrator, and as an adult he believes both passions have merged into one career in some way. He likes to draw everything, mostly faces and scenery, and he also enjoys planning and looking for new technical challenges. Sometimes he enjoys adding little details to give life to an illustration (perhaps a new color palate or creating different tweaks without losing his identity as an illustrator). Carlos is an electronic technician and a graphic and web designer. Mark Weakland wears many hats. As an author, he's written books for teachers, including Super Core!: Turbocharging Your Basal Reading Program with More Reading, Writing, and Word Work, published by the International Reading Association. His book topics for children include sports, bacteria, comets, and poetry. Mark's also a reading specialist. He teaches kindergarten children, third graders, parents, and teachers. As a musician and songwriter, Mark sings, plays percussion, and strums the guitar. Many of his songs, including I Sure Love Pancakes and The Dooflicky Machine, have won national awards and contests. Mark lives in Western Pennsylvania. Christopher L. Harbo discovered his love of comic books as an adult when he stumbled on a copy of Stan Sakai's comic Usagi Yojimbo . Today, Christopher's bookshelves are loaded with comics and graphic novels from around the world. When he's not reading, Christopher enjoys practicing origami, watching Japanese anime, and working in his garden. Anthony Wacholtz has been a baseball fan since he was old enough to pick up a bat and ball. He earned a degree in English from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and has written a biography for young readers of All-Star catcher Joe Mauer. Besides playing softball and following his favorite team, the Minnesota Twins, he enjoys pitting his baseball knowledge against others in fantasy baseball.
