Synopsis

Girls F.C. What's Ukrainian for Football? by Helena Pielichaty

Girls FC: the best team for football and friendship. Nika Kozak is playing in a special tournament to celebrate the World Cup, and each team is to be given a country to represent. Nika is delighted when her team is selected as the Ukraine, the country where she was born and brought up. The rest of the team are all disappointed, though - they wanted to be England. Nika feels upset, until Uncle Bohdan tells her about a match in Kiev during the Second World War. As Nika listens, she becomes more and more proud of her country and is determined to rally her side.
