Once Upon a Northern Night by Jean E. Pendziwol

Once Upon a Northern Night by Jean E. Pendziwol

It started with one tiny flake, perfect and beautiful and special, just like you. Then there were two, and then three. In this enchanting, lyrical lullaby brought to life by award-winning illustrator Isabelle Arsenault, the beauty of a northern night unfolds as a young child sleeps. Wrapped in a snug, downy blanket, a snowflake falls, and then another and another. Soon the magic of the night outside takes hold - animals awaken, snow swirls, stars twinkle and winds whisper. A mixture of magic, wildlife and deep comfort, tip-toe through the pages of this beautiful bedtime read-aloud, and try not to break the spell of the peaceful, quiet, wintry north.

Lyrical, peaceful and deeply comforting, it has the feel of a bedtime read-aloud classic, and is one of the most beautiful picture books of the season. The Bookseller The poetic and lyrical language celebrates the wonder and beauty of the wintry rural landscape and the wild animals which inhabit it. The snowy scenery is gorgeously sketched in predominantly black and white, but gentle hints of colour add to the magic [...] An enchanting and comforting bedtime read which will no doubt appeal to all ages. Simply stunning! Inis Reading Guide Telling the story of what happens in nature while you're sleeping, this story reads like a prose poem. Stunningly illustrated, it's beautiful and magical at the same time. A perfect gift book. Huffington Post This is a lovely lullaby-style bedtime story to fall asleep to, with stunning illustrations. Colours are used sparingly - it is night after all - and to great effect. A magical picture book for the over 5s. Cambridge Magazine The beauty and wonder of the northern light are brought to life in this lovely lullaby. Angels & Urchins If ever there was a book to capture the sensation one has as a young child of being tucked in at night by a parent and feeling so comforted, safe and truly loved, this is it. Perfection is the only way to describe this offering from the stellar coupling of Pendziwol and Arsenault! Inis Magazine
