Reviews

It's a real pleasure when you find an author who can write authoritatively on a subject and who can write well. Victoria Eveleigh is a particularly fortunate find ... Eveleigh is not just a good writer, she's got her finger on the pulse of the young rider. She understands their preoccupations and their worries - and how they develop when they're away from their equine friends... [The KATY'S EXMOOR PONIES books are] gems and they'll be appreciated as such for a long time. THE BOOKBAG For middle grade readers upwards, Victoria's work has wide appeal and her love and firsthand knowledge of Exmoor shine through Devon Life It's a good pony book which can inform and entertain, and this does both without losing momentum in the plot ... I would recommend this book to anyone who like ponies, or Exmoor, or who simply enjoys a good story, well told Exmoor Magazine Pony-mad girls will adore this story ... an easy and exciting read that is sure to keep pony-loving youngsters absorbed to the last page. HORSE MAGAZINE on KATY'S WILD FOAL A book that's going to be gobbled up by girls in the nine-plus age group and if they've any interest in animals then they're going to love it as much as I did. THE BOOKBAG on KATY'S WILD FOAL At the end of [Katy's Champion Pony] I came to two conclusions. The first is that Victoria Eveleigh not only knows horses and ponies, but she can bring them off the page and let you hear them galloping. The second is that she knows people. ... There's a real love of people and animals which come through in these books. THE BOOKBAG on KATY'S CHAMPION PONY The background of Exmoor is outstandingly authentic: never are you in any doubt that the author knows Exmoor, and farming, like the back of her hand. Katy and her family are wonderful creations, and completely believable, as is the portrayal of their life JANE BADGER BOOKS on KATY'S WILD FOAL

About the Author

Victoria Eveleigh

Victoria Eveleigh was born in London, but her heart has always been in the countryside, and her stories are full of the things she loves: horses and ponies, countryside, farming and people.

The stories were initially self-published, but in 2012 Orion Children’s Books published these stories as Katy's Wild Foal, Katy's Champion Pony, Katy's Pony Surprise, and A Stallion Called Midnight. The books include author's notes, charming chapter illustrations by Chris and beautiful cover illustrations by Angelo Rinaldi.

Victoria's new trilogy - Joe and the Hidden Horseshoe, Joe and the Lightning Pony and Joe and the Race to Rescue - has involved some fascinating research about farriery, aikido, Pony Club mounted games and heavy horses. The stories still have horses and ponies at their heart, but this time a boy called Joe is the main character. Victoria feels that boys don’t feature enough in pony stories nowadays and she hopes that both boys and girls (and adults) will enjoy reading them.
