Synopsis

The Calamitous Cook by Rachel Delahaye

Horrible Histories meets Wimpy Kid in these funny stories mismatching characters with careers. The stories are colour chapter books perfect for the independent reader. In this story it is the grand opening of a new restaurant, but have they got the right chef? As food flies something seems to be going terribly wrong in the kitchen! Race Further with Reading is a series designed to build reading confidence with illustrated stories in manageable bite-size chapters, which encourage a sense of achievement at completing each one. They follow on a level from the Race Ahead with Reading series with stories of 2,000 words. The books are perfect for children aged 6-8 or who read book band 11.

About the Author

After studying linguistics near a town called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Rachel began a career in print journalism. She has worked in London, Sydney and Melbourne, and now lives in Bath. While she has vowed never to move again (well, not for a little while), her imagination has refused to settle down, and she's now writing children's fiction. Her hilarious Jim Reaper: Son of Grim, is published by Piccadilly Press (Feb 2016), with two sequels following hot on its heels. The Calamitous Cook is her first title for Franklin Watts. Rachel is married with two children and a dog called Rocket.
