Reviews

Anna s 12 cousins are mischievous young boys who cheerfully target her with their pranks. As the rhyming text reveals, 'Her skirt became a teepee, / her bear, a wrecking ball. / They launched a rocket into space. / The astronaut? Her doll.

? Hardly. Resourceful Anna often sees what s coming next and sometimes even turns the tables on the boys. Short, amusing verses create a narrative structure for the ongoing tomfoolery and ultimate camaraderie in this lively picture book. Ink drawings with color washes portray unflappable Anna and her multicultural group of cousins with energy and warmth. The many close-ups of chaotic horseplay give way to a calmer scene near the end, when the arrival of an ice cream truck brings a welcome truce. A witty picture book that reads aloud well. Booklist
