Synopsis

Jake's Alien Adventures by Noel Gordon, Sonia McCalla

Jake has a toothache and cannot play outside with his friends as he has taken some medicine. His sad dream of not having anyone to play with is caught by the dreamcatcher above his bed and sent to planet Venus, where Woo Woo lives. Woo Woo receives the dream cloud with his aerial and reads Jake's sad dream - so he jumps into his spaceship and flies across the Milky Way to Earth. Jake is excited and happy to see Woo Woo's spaceship hovering outside his bedroom window. Woo Woo plays with Jake's fluffy hair in amazement - he has never seen hair before! Woo Woo invites Jake to his home. They fly across the Milky Way to Venus. Jake is having the time of his life and cannot believe that all the plants and birds are blue - even Woo Woo's home is blue and floats above the ground! Jake and Woo Woo have both found special friends for life. When Jake is sad or lonely, Woo Woo comes and plays with him. Woo Woo really likes Earth because of all the different children and the many different languages. Jake's Alien Adventures will appeal to young children aged from 4-7 years old and contains beautiful full-colour illustrations. The book was inspired by my 5 year old boy who was having problems sleeping, says Noel behind his motivation to write the book.

Reviews

Amazing story, amazing illustrations... Quirky, funny, deep and poignant. This book gets the children thinking, laughing, dreaming... It celebrates differences and reminds us that one of the best things about our planet earth is the huge variety of different human beings -- Vivette Sewell West Green Primary School
