Barti and Bel Look for a Book by Suzanne Carpenter

A vibrant picture book giving a highly original introduction to the world of books. The short text is written in rhyming couplets.

Reviews

Suzanne Carpenter has written and illustrated this lively book aimed at 4 to 7 year olds. The adventures of Barti and Bel are told in rhyming couplets, and the pictures are colourful and cartoon-like with Carpenters signature collages as background. The children are shown browsing through a variety of books in their local library. Young readers, or those being read to, will, however, need explanations of some of the books on offer. See an x-ray of your bone, for example, with pictures of skeletons is not the kind of information I would expect to find in the youngest readers section of the library. Move around, get muscle tone will, again, need a little explanation of the words, though the illustrations will be familiar. These quibbles aside, children will enjoy finding with Barti and Bel cook books, books on nature, animals, and outer space, among other subjects, in this vivid and humorous book.
