Synopsis

Sausages! by Jessica Souhami

When a poor woodcutter called John helps an elf in distress, the elf rewards him with three magic wishes. As John and Martha sit dreaming about what they could ask for, a chance remark by John prompts the appearance of some sizzling, succulent sausages! But the argument this causes between the couple leads to a very silly situation, which only their last remaining wish can put right. Be careful what you wish for - your wish might come true!

Reviews

This boldly illustrated picture-book with its well honed narrative is a vivid and down-to-earth treatment of the traditional cautionary tale about how important it is to mind your language if you've been granted a wish. Books for Keeps Souhami's background in Art and Design shines through on every page, with her skill as a puppeteer and storyteller making this a highly creative project. Young children will love the funny twists in the tale... Excellent for sharing - a bit of a 'banger

! Carousel The perils of wishing are clearly highlighted in this entertaining story. John and his wife are granted three wishes by a passing elf. What should they choose? Racking their brains they think about getting rich. But the thinking takes a long, long time and when John gets overcome by hunger he just blurts out 'Sausages'. Catastrophe! Sausages appear from nowhere and it seems to be impossible to get rid of them. Bold illustrations capture the ridiculous, sausage-filled dilemma the couple face. Book Ahead 0-7
