Reviews
Should go a long way towards convincing children and parents alike that dyslexia should not be a barrier to achievement and success. Cornishman Sensitive treatment of dyslexia by an exciting Cornish illustrator and author. Perfect for any child who finds spelling or school difficult. Western Morning News Conveys the difficulties and emotions of dyslexia through a child's eyes in a way that is both uplifting and humbling. Nursery Education The author/artist portrays Hudson and his dyslexia with sensitivity and understanding. Her illustrations are delightfully upbeat and slightly quirky. Books for Keeps This bright, sympathetic treatment of a common condition both supports and reassures those children with dyslexia and informs children who do not understand a condition which children in their class may have. A fuller explanation of the condition, and contact information for dyslexia support organisations is given on the final page. This cheerful picturebook is a valuable resource in the classroom both for its story and for its possibilities for PSCHE. Armadillo Magazine The story of Hudson offers a sense of reality. This is not surprising as 'Hudson Hates Schoolis the first picture book produced by Ella Hudson, who is herself dyslexic. Her illustrations are immediately engaging
- colourful, idiosyncratic and splattered with fascinating visual details (the visual description of Hudson's brain, for example is brilliant.)... The book is far too much fun to keep for a specific audience or function. many children will love sharing Hudson's storry and will celebrate with him as he starts to enjoy school. School Librarian This sensitive treatment of a child's reading difficulties carries a reassuring message for parents about the difficulties that dyslexics have with the word sounds and short-term visual memory sequencing. But they also have special strengths and abilities with tasks that involve creative and visual thinking - dyslexia need never be a barrier to acheivement or success. Ibby Link
