Synopsis

A Place in the Wood: David Nash by Carolyn Davies, Lynne Bebb

An inspiring artbook for children which serves as an introduction to the work of the sculptor David Nash. David Nash's sculptures travel the world, but this internationally acclaimed artist has chosen to live and work in Wales. Some of the artworks closest to his heart grow in his woodlands at Cae'n y Coed, planted, nurtured and tended throughout David's long career.

Reviews

David Nash is an internationally-renowned sculptor in wood. From his base, Capel Rhiw in Blaenau Ffestiniog, he explores the area nearby for fallen trees to turn into magical pieces of art. Using mechanical tools of all sorts, as well as massive chainsaws, he works with the wood, seeing each piece's innate needs and values. In this beautifully produced book, children will be introduced not only to the artist, but to his work and to the countryside that inspires him. The warmth of wood and the originality of Nash's shapes are shown clearly in a large number of excellent photographs, and the text comes close to being lyrical in its descriptive power. An excellent introduction to a distinguished Welsh artist.
