Reviews

Space Dog by Mini Grey is an anarchic, adrenalin-packed adventure of The Highest Order. Utterly and joyously playful, wildly and lavishly imaginative, this dynamic and delightful journey exploring space and friendship is sublime. -- Zoe Playing by the Book Grey's witty language, from the hilarious exclamations made by Space Dog ( Thundering milkswamps! , Shivering Stilton! ) to the deliciously outlandish names of rare alien life forms (the Cruets of West Cutlery, the Fruitons of Crumble Major) has had us all giggling time and again, even on the 15th reading of Space Dog Her pacing is timed to perfection, with dramatic stretches interspersed with moments of great relief and humour, drawing readers, listeners, grown-ups, children ever more closely in to Grey's fantastic, phenomenal universe Spooniverse. -- Zoe Playing by the Book Grey's illustrations richly illuminate the world she has built to share with us, giving enormous pleasure every time they are returned to. -- Zoe Playing by the Book This hilarious and zany story with its weird and wonderful situations is full of laughs - and wonderful illustrations. Great fun. Parents in Touch Wonderful stuff! This action-packed adventure is bound to appeal to the numerous established fans of Mini Grey and will I'm certain, win her a whole host of new ones. This is overflowing with exciting happenings, visual jokes and verbal ones; and every turn of the page brings fantastic and frenzied features to divert and delight. -- Jill Bennett Red Reading Hub

About the Author

Mini Grey

Mini Grey was born in the front seat of a mini in an icy car-park in South Wales. She grew up in a village in Buckinghamshire with plenty of places to make camps, climb trees and pretend to be horses. As a child Mini created many bizarre objects from cardboard, clay, papier mache, dough, plaster, toilet rolls and crisp packets.

At university Mini became involved with set-building at the Bloomsbury theatre and eventually got asked to design some shows. After her degree she worked making latex puppets in a basement in Covent Garden until she was offered a place on a theatre design course. Mini loved theatre designing but she didn't earn much money. She trained to be a teacher and worked for six years in South London. She especially liked running after-school clubs in model-making and pottery.

Mini had always done bits of illustration in her spare time, and had an ambition to have a book published some day. She did a two-year MA in illustration, and made a strange pop-up book and an animation about it.

Mini has been shortlisted and won a number of prizes including for, The Pea and The Princess being shortlisted for the Greenaway Award in 2002, and Biscuit Bear, being the winner of the Smarties Prize in 2004.

Mini lives in Oxford with her partner Tony and cat Bonzetta. She likes running along the river, cycling, walking up hills, running down corridors, and playing badly on her electric piano wearing headphones.
