Synopsis

The Pledge of Allegiance A Children's Illustrated Paraphrase by Barbara Clack

For well over 100 years, each school day across America children have stood to say the Pledge of Allegiance, and this illustrated book explains the meaning of the Pledge through paraphrases and beautiful drawings. It guides the reader through each part of the Pledge with meaningful, illuminated texts designed to spark questions and to build an understanding of the principles put forth. The author has taken the simple idea of a daily recitation and given children a fresh way to think about what they are saying.

About the Author

BARBRA CLACK is an artist and a teacher, and she knows that children need to understand The Pledge. She has taught art on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Shiprock, New Mexico; in economically disadvantaged communities in the Ozark Mountains; and in Texas' public schools. Barbra is currently a third grade classroom teacher and campus technology consultant and also teaches a five-week summer art class called My Dog Could Do That! for high school students. She has a B.A. degree from Ouachita Baptist University and has studied art in the M.F.A. program at the University of Arkansas and mural painting in Guadalajara, Mexico. Barbra lives in Albany, Texas, with her husband Jay and enjoys traveling with friends and family. The Pledge of Allegiance is her first book.
