Simon Bartram is one of the most talented picture book illustrators and authors working today. He realised very early on that he wanted to be an illustrator as he always loved drawing and was an avid consumer of comics. His first illustration was for Roy of the Rovers when he was eleven. He graduated from Birmingham Polytechnic with a first class degree in illustration in 1990, and his art style is heavily in uenced by artists such as Peter Blake, Stanley Spencer and Reg Cartwright. Simon has been shortlisted for several major illustration awards including The Mother Goose in 1999 and the Kate Greenaway Award twice.
This is what the Art Director at Templar, his publisher, has said about him:
'Simon is wonderfully bonkers, and as British as a mini pork pie. He is a unique voice in children's publishing and his books have a refreshingly 'real' heart and natural character. He's one of the best British illustrators in the universe!'
