As well as 150 different stickers with which to decorate a variety of scenes, there are cut-out postcards, door hangers and a mask, plus a board game, wordsearches, puzzles and much, much more. The illustrations are taken from the film and look very good indeed. Paddington himself graces most spreads, looking as cute and cuddly as he ever has and look out for special appearances by Aunt Lucy too. Lots of fun and Paddington’s world is particularly appealing. Andrea Reece
Paddington’s new big-screen adventure offers lots of excitement, action and, of course, laughs. Children (and adults too) will love it, and this full-colour storybook is both a lovely souvenir and a way for them to enjoy it all again and again. The story is told through a combination of short paragraphs of text and lines of dialogue plus lots of stills from the movie. It’s bright, attractive and fun to read, Paddington is his warm-hearted, cuddly little self throughout. Andrea Reece
Paddington’s new adventures on the big screen have reminded everyone of just why the little bear from Darkest Peru is such a favourite in his adopted homeland. Paddington is generous, warm-hearted, an innocent who brings out the best in those around him (even hardened criminals in this new story), but inadvertently causes chaos on a regular basis. That’s certainly the case in this new story and film. The plot hinges on a beautiful pop-up book of London: Paddington wants it for Great Aunt Lucy, but someone a lot less nice is after it too. Anna Wilson’s lively story version captures all the fun and excitement of the film, and all that we love about Paddington too. Andrea Reece
Paddington’s adventures in his new film stem from a book, a beautiful pop-up book of London in times gone by. Now here is a beautiful pop-up book of London for fans of Paddington and the film to treasure. Readers can explore olden days London with Paddington and his Great Aunt Lucy, as six stylishly illustrated scenes pop up before their eyes, from Piccadilly Circus to St Paul’s Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament. They’ll be able to spot Paddington and his aunt in the scenes, riding on buses (one-and-a-half-bears please, asks Paddington politely) and amongst the crowds, and the spectacular paper-engineering will make them feel they are really part of it too. A gorgeous book which will provide readers with many, many hours of pleasure. Andrea Reece
Part of the stable of pre-school TV characters for children created by the godmother of the genre Anne Wood, the endearing, bird-like Twirlywoos are huge favourites with the very young, and they will love this really big Big Book. Ideal for use at nursery or in school, it will also be fun to prop up at home or to lay flat on the floor so that each double page becomes a map of learning and adventure. The Twirlywoos explore first concepts such as numbers, colours and the alphabet and there are things to learn on every page. The emphasis is on building children’s confidence, as they work things out for themselves with the help of the friendly, reassuring characters making this a useful and very effective first learning book. ~ Andrea Reece
Have a very Twirly Christmas with the Twirlywoos in this gorgeous board book with a shiny foiled cover! This is perfectly packaged for small hands, filled with colour and the friendly, familar Twirlywoos that little CBeebies fans will know and love. This clever interactive board book is just the thing to get everyone smiling in the run up to Christmas. Turning the pages really does wake up Santa, thanks to a neat bit of paper engineering. Readers can wake up an elf too, and watch Rudolph’s nose light up, before a teddy gets ready to play. The artwork is bright and lively, full of things to spot, count, name and discuss and it’s a really useful first book as well as being a fun introduction to the festive season. ~ Andrea Reece
One of a series of unusual first concept books, this board book introduces children to colours using objects from the British Museum’s collection. Each one of the dozens of items featured is beautiful to look at, from the green porcelain bowl (China 18th century), to the gold Roman coin (AD 125) to Grayson Perry’s yellow Rosetta Vase (2011). They clearly have stories to tell too and more information is available by scanning a QR code featured at the back of the book. Child-focused and useful the book successfully introduces not just colours but a first sense of history and the dynamic ever-changing cultures and civilisations of our world. ~ Andrea Reece
A pocketful of Paddington will make any day or journey better. This dinky little slipcase contains four sturdy board books, each with a short but satisfying narrative. Using stills from the hugely popular film, the books describe Paddington's manners, introduce the Brown family and show him exploring his favourite bits of London. They are small, lots of fun and full of marmalade, just like Paddington himself in fact. ~ Andrea Reece
Black, white; empty, full; cold, hot: this striking book introduces children to the concept of opposites, and to simple first words. However, by using objects taken from the collection of the British Museum it will also awaken their curiosity and inspire a first fascination with history. No-one looking at these beautiful objects and paintings could fail to be struck not just by their beauty, but also by the sense of stories they contain (more information is readily available via a QR code printed on the back page). Child-focused and thoroughly useful, this will also be a fascinating book to share with children and should inspire happy visits to museums and galleries. ~ Andrea Reece
There’s hours of fun for young Paddington fans to be had in this sturdy sticker book, based on the new film. Paddington and his world look very appealing in the new screen versions of his stories and are reproduced with care here. Scenes to decorate with photographic stickers include Paddington Station, Paddington’s favourite café, 32 Windsor Gardens, a London tube train, the Natural History Museum and of course Mr Gruber’s antique shop. The stickers are jolly and very varied, and this is further proof that there isn’t a setting anywhere that can’t be improved by the addition of a marmalade sandwich. Andrea Reece
Inspired by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury’s classic Picturebook and the new TV version this is a lovely book to take outdoors whether you’re on a country walk or in the local park or just the back garden. There are suggestions for things to do, from planting sees to a bit of soil analysis and lots of opportunities for sketching too.
