This Month’s Highlights

Newly hatched imprints for teens

There’s a plethora of publishers establishing new imprints this year that are aimed at teens and young adults. There are two this month, both absolute crackers. Independent publisher Canongate has teamed up with children's specialist Walker Books to put a range of bestselling, award-winning books into the hands of the next generation of adult readers. The imprint, Walker Canongate, launches this month with four titles - Yann Martel's Life of Pi, Niccolo Ammaniti's I'm Not Scared, Kelly Link's Pretty Monsters and Matt Haig's The Radleys.

The second is from Puffin who has launched Razorbill (another small seabird for the non-twitchers among you), to cater for the astronomical rise of teenage fiction. Three newly hatched novels for you to enjoy in the launch list include The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Other Countess.

Happy 80th birthday Swallows and Amazons!

Finally, if you have a youngster that’s heading for school this Autumn then do take a look at the terrific Usborne Very First Reading series – we feel they’re a terrific way of helping your child to read and gain in confidence prior to going to school. That said, do continue with the sharing of picture books with your youngsters as too often these are spurned by parents when children are too young.
