Well, after what can only be described as a tumultuous year and a half for kids, it's back to school! No bubbles, no masks, no social distancing - and hurrah for that.

One thing that hasn't changed of course in schools is the importance of reading for pleasure. Now more than ever it's critical that we find books to inspire, engage, educate and support our children.

At our sister website LoveReading4Schools our Editorial Experts Joy Court and Tricia Adams each year work to produce a series of comprehensive lists for readers of all year groups.

Our overall mission is to promote reading for pleasure with quality texts that are perfectly pitched for the age group and the curriculum - from reception right through to year 10.

We particularly avoid blockbusters, classic or set texts known to everyone, so that we can include poetry, stunning information texts and inspirational books in which all children and young people can find themselves reflected.

These are updated every academic year and you can view the new versions ready for academic year 2021/22 on the LoveReading4Schools website here.

As a parent, you can browse to your heart's content, or sign up and view your school's page and either view the lists online or download them for yourself.

In addition if you'd like books to help with the start back to school, check out our Back to School Collection

This collection is a varied and fitting collection of books, all with a school theme, for a range of ages from those starting reception to those moving to senior school and beyond. Some are gentle and reassuring, others offer a more practical approach of what children might expect when school starts up again. Those worried about the return to school can find a greater selection of books and resources in our Anxiety & Wellbeing feature.

We hope the children settle back into school well and remember that whatever the need, LoveReading4Kids and LoveReading4Schools are here to hold your hand in keeping your kids loving reading or getting the most reluctant of readers engaged.

You got this, kids.
