LoveReading4Kids is always on the look out for interesting book related activities, needed more than ever whilst schools are closed, extra-curriculars clubs on hold and the winter weather keeps us mainly indoors.

Paper Beach is a unique community art project that celebrates the joy of reading and connects readers of all ages from across the country and around the world.

Readers of all ages are being asked to join in with the project and share their love of reading by answering one of two questions ‘Where does reading take you?’ or ‘Where do you want to go on your next reading adventure?’ The project is open to anyone, in particular, schools and children. Paper Beach aims to demonstrate that whilst we are limited in the activities we can currently partake in, one can still go on the most fantastic adventures within the pages of a book.

The culmination of the Paper Beach project will be revealed in a major live build event in March 2021 where all entries will be brought together to create one giant artwork at a live streamed event.

To accompany the project, Egmont Books have launched a series of online author events to help parents and teachers currently delivering home learning to children across the UK, whilst encouraging participation in the Paper Beach project.

These events will be presented by author and presenter Gareth P. Jones and will include events from authors Adam & Charlotte Guillain, Jim Smith, Jenny McLachlan, Sophy Henn, Jack Meggitt Phillips and Smriti Halls. Each author event will include a home-schooling task and resources tailored to the age and stage of every participating child. The event programme will run for six weeks, with the first event having launched on Tuesday 19th January. Each pre-recorded event will be posted on Egmont’s social media channels and East Cliff Creatives website.

Submissions to the Paper Beach project from school children will automatically be entered into a competition to win £500 worth of Egmont books for their school. Egmont Books are offering six prizes to be won; one per week for the duration of the event programme.

To submit an entry and view the six-week events programme visit East Cliff Creatives Paper Beach website.

You can find some great examples to help you with your own entry and you can also track where in the country, and the world!, entries are coming from. Why not get your school on to the leader board - and don't forget, the last date to submit your entry is Thursday 25th February.
