Katie Cleminson’s books are very special things. They burst with wholly original, joyful artwork and stories that celebrate the magic of children’s lives, sparking their imaginations.
Her debut picture book, Box of Tricks, uses colour in a bold, inventive way, grabbing children and adults alike and taking them on a journey to meet Eva – the girl who becomes a master magician, conjuring extraordinary delights out of her special box, including one incredibly adorable polar bear. A celebration of creativity and imaginative play, Box of Tricks was followed by Wake Up! – the story of one boy’s day, accompanied by some furry friends who show that maybe animals and people aren’t so different after all. Katie Cleminson Press Reviews
'...really knocked my socks off... it's rare to see a picture book so well-executed by a first-time author/illustrator... In summary, I think this is a perfect picture book. The text and illustrations are balanced perfectly, and the story feels fresh.' - Publishers Weekly
'The musical rabbits lure you into this explosion of colour and action, as they dance their way across the opening pages. It's largely the contrasts that make this story one to remember. Black, white and grey are used to magical effect when the riot of red and blue is added to the background.' - Child Education
'Cleminson's illustrations are whimsical, elegant and charming... As an illustrator, Cleminson has a distinctive and wonderful talent.' - The Truth About Books
'Cleminson draws friendly creatures with a free, confident inky line... and tells a story of few words, but with surprises.' - Sunday Times
