Embassy of the Dead is full of gruesome humour and non-stop adventure. Jake Green’s life changes when he runs into – almost literally – the ghost of a long-dead undertaker called Stiffkey. In a case of mistaken identity, Stiffkey entrusts Jake with the care of a highly dangerous object which, should it fall into the wrong ghostly hands, will cause real and terrifying problems for the living. This is the beginning of an adventure which sees Jake careering across the countryside at the wheel of his father’s campervan (scenes any right-minded child will love) pursued by some very unpleasant spooks, while gathering around him a band of dead companions including a fox, and a hockey-stick-wielding, school girl poltergeist. Will Mabbitt finds humour in the worlds of the living and the dead, and envisages the latter as governed by a mix of council-office bureaucrats and high-level spies. It’s great fun, but the action occasionally and momentarily slows to give readers a glimpse into the pain of losing someone, and there’s a real poignancy in some of the scenes.

Engaging and a page turner.

I really like this book because it keeps you engaged and on your toes. The book is adventurous with a degree of mystery. The mix of characters, good and bad - make it very interesting and fun. The Grim Reaper - Mawkins - is is described so well, especially where fog follows him everywhere. The book captures your imagination of the land of dead and land of living - really good balance of the two worlds. I loved the Embassy of the dead - it protects the two worlds from each other.... If someone says good morning to you in the afternoon, be sure to correct them: you don't want to be mistaken for a ghost!

This is a thrilling tale about a boy named Jake accidentally opening a box that contains a rotten finger! It all happens when a parcel is delivered to the wrong person. That box was not supposed to be opened - but because he opened it, Jake is doomed to the eternal void (it's as bad as it sounds!). On his way to the Embassy of the Dead, he gathers a deadly gang that includes Stiffkey the undertaker, Cora the hockey loving ghost and Zorro the ghost fox. They have one mission - to try and find the Embassy of the Dead and explain their mistakes.

This is story of friendship and trust, spooky but not scary. Fans of the film WITCHES BALL will enjoy it and so will those who enjoy an adventure.... Read Full Review

Wow! I loved Embassy of the Dead! I couldn't put it down! Throughout the book I found myself getting to know and love the characters even more than I already did!

I loved Embassy of the dead! It was a real thriller with a sense of comedy mixed in as well. I couldn't put it down! My favourite character would have to be Stiffkey because he's so sensible but his manner and personality are heartwarming!... Read Full Review
