Roald Dahl, a man who knew his way round a chocolate bar, would have approved of this book. Imagine how awful it would be if the world’s supplies of chocolate were threatened by an impending chocopocalypse – it doesn’t bear thinking about, but that’s what’s facing Jelly, the young hero of this book. Chocoholics both, Jelly and her gran team up to get to the bottom of this chocopocalypse, and it seems snobby posh chocolate shop owner Garibaldi Chocolati might just have something to do with it. Inventive, original and genuinely funny with a quirky cast of characters and an internal logic all of its own, kids will gobble this up.
This will be enjoyed by fans of David Walliams’s children’s books, while Frank Cottrell Boyce’s The Astounding Broccoli Boy is another wacky adventure, and there are kids up against eccentric and unscrupulous criminals in William Sutcliffe’s Circus of Thieves series. ~ Andrea Reece
A Piece of Passion from Barry Cunningham, Publisher So clever clogs Chris Callaghan said it was true. One day (soon) we would all run out of chocolate (bugs or something). NO! I said, and he said, why don’t we see what would happen? And here it is! Luckily we have Jelly on our side (the girl not the pudding). So, will science or something else save our beloved bars? It can’t really be true – can it?

About
The Great Chocoplot Synopsis
Jelly and her family live in Chompton-on-de-Lyte, where everyone loves a Chocablocka bar or two. So when the end of chocolate is announced, she can't believe it. Determined to investigate, Jelly and her gran follow a trail of clues to a posh chocolate shop and its owner, the pompous Garibaldi Chocolati. Gari's suspiciously smug, despite his failing business and yucky chocolate. Is it really the chocopocalypse, or is there a chocoplot afoot?
An original and exciting adventure story with a truly nightmare-inducing premise: what if all chocolate was to disappear? Featuring a truly ghastly villain – Willy Wonka crossed with an evil mastermind – and a plucky heroine in the form of our protagonist Jelly, The Great Chocoplot is a fun and quirky story guaranteed to make you reach for the chocolate box.

About Chris Callaghan
Chris’ first job was on a Pick 'n' Mix counter, followed by a career in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Even though fully trained on how jet fighters work and fly, he still suspects that there is a little magic involved somewhere.
Then as an Environmental Scientist he spent a lot of time getting wet on factory roofs, measuring pollution. He left all that behind to become a Stay At Home Dad where his brain began fizzing with stories. His wife and daughter kept insisting that he wrote some of these stories down. So he did.
After writing The Great Chocoplot for his daughter as a Christmas present he entered it into Chicken House’s Open Coop, a one-day amnesty for unpublished writers, where it was immediately snapped up for publication. He lives in Newcastle with his family.
