Danger, daring and dead bodies lie at the heart of this thrilling detective story. Skulduggery Pleasant, the DI whose name lives up to his looks, is back for a second set of hideous adventures. Now Baron Vengeous is out of prison…Can Skulduggery stop him from getting the deadly armour of Lord Vile? This book is the follow up to the author's debut novel Skulduggery Pleasant. The Lovereading comment:Skulduggery, the sharply-dressed skeleton detective is at it again in another startling and hilarious adventure in which Skulduggery, master of powerful magic, teams up with his sidekick to save the world. Problem: his sidekick is a 12-year-old girl. Once again Derek Landy has served up a roller-coaster ride of wit, skulduggery and magic, with brilliantly drawn characters and a plot-line that’s thicker than blood. Early Reader Review (Hugh 13). It's a brilliant follow-on to the first book and it picks up the story straight away. It ties up many loose ends from the first book but it also leaves many questions and it has set up a brilliant cliff-hanger for the third book to begin. The characters have been developed so well that they are almost real people. It is not all just magic and action, there are some hilarious lines that had me in fits of laughter. All in all I think it was a great book and I am looking forward to the sequel.
An absolute must for every early teenager. Fun, interesting and useful the author has compiled a great list of things to be sure to do before those early care free days – the childish wonder of innocence – are over and before your entire attention span becomes taken up with worrying about the opposite sex.

The addition of a scrap book for recording all the babies own milestones is fun too. If you’re looking for other great books for this age range then go to our Babies and Toddlers category.
Jacqueline Wilson, February 2012 Guest Editor: "The text is very minimal but perfect - and the illustrations are glorious. This isn't a scary book in the slightest, though the monsters are grotesque, equipped with very sharp teeth and pointy claws. Little Max in his wolf suit tames them instantly and they declare him king of all wild things. But Max is still a little boy and although he has uproarious fun in the land of the wild things he's clearly glad to be back home where his supper is waiting for him. I've read this story to countless children and they've all loved it, especially when they join in, roaring their terrible roars, gnashing their terrible teeth, rolling their terrible eyes and showing their terrible claws." Julia Eccleshare: A classic story of the power of a childhood tantrum.
