A thought adventure begins with a heart-stopping moment. Fin hears car doors slam, a scream and a dull thud. Through the mist he glimpses a figure falling from the bridge; when he reaches it he finds it is a girl who he is helpless to save. After questioning from the police, Fin tries to piece together the story. Did she jump or was she pushed? His inquiry leads him to unravel some of the mystery surrounding his own sister’s disappearance as well as uncovering a secret that lies at the heart of his island community. Lovereading comment: A pacy well written thriller in which a teenage boy becomes entangled in murderous goings on after witnessing a possible murder. Utterly gripping it touches on large topics such as extremism and terrorism but is, above all, a compelling and intriguing literary mystery. The author's only previous novel, The Witness was highly praised and we rated highly too.
This is a sumptuous collection of stories and verse compiled by Michael Morpurgo, beautifully illustrated by Quentin Blake and published in aid of The Prince's Foundation for Children and Arts and to celebrate the Prince of Wales's 60th birthday. It's a real treasury of children's literature, perfect as a gift for christmas or for birthdays and including new and previously published pieces by some of today's most acclaimed writers as well as some classic excerpts as well.
This is a wonderful coming-of-age novel that every teenage boy will empathise with, and every teenage girl will glean insight from. Whilst constructing a moving narrative, the novel also explores a number of issues, including single parenthood, absentee fathers, truancy and bullying. Fish in the Sky truly captures the difficult but exciting transition from adolescence to adulthood. A book that will provoke the reader to both laughter and tears in equal measure.
Yet again Anthony Horowitz has come up trumps with an edge-of-the-seat thriller with some brilliantly spun twists that will keep you guessing right up to the very end. The female protagonist is brilliantly portrayed - the first time, we think Horowitz has led with a female character. it's sure to get more girls reading him and it certainly won't disappoint the boys. The only disappointment after finishing this one will be waiting for the next one.

A welcome return of a classic title which shows how the world was viewed by a different generation in the years following World War Two. Clarke Hutton’s lithographs take the reader on a journey of exploration through the new worlds as they were found from the time of the Phoenicians and Greeks though Sir Walter Raleigh’s discovery of the America, Captain Cook’s arrival in Australia and Captain Scott and Amundsen’s desperate race for the South Pole. The heroic stories will continue to delight a new generation and the old fashioned illustrations are full of period charm. From the same author who brought you A Picture History of Britain.
