Teaching Resources for Georgie by Malachy Doyle

This resource pack has been designed to support the teaching of Georgie by Malachy Doyle, an award-winning novel that explores mental health, empathy and the power of kindness. Through a series of engaging activities, students are encouraged to examine the novel’s characters, settings and themes while developing key literacy skills such as inference, evidence gathering, critical analysis and creative writing.

The activities can be used flexibly across lessons and are suitable for upper KS3 and KS4 students. They include reading comprehension, discussion tasks, creative responses and exam-style questions, alongside opportunities for pair work, group work and self or peer assessment. 

By guiding students through Georgie’s journey, these resources invite thoughtful discussion about isolation, recovery and the importance of compassion. They aim not only to deepen understanding of the novel but also to encourage reflection, empathy and confident engagement with literature.
