About Respect

From the co-creator of the viral 'Tea Consent' video, this is the perfect introduction to consent for kids and families everywhere. Your body belongs to you and you get to set your own rules, so that you may have boundaries for different people and sometimes they might change. Like when you hi-five your friends and kiss your kitten, but not the other way round!

But consent doesn't need to be confusing. From setting boundaries, to reflecting on your own behaviour and learning how to be an awesome bystander, this book will have you feeling confident, respected, and 100% in charge of yourself and your body.

Brought to life with funny and informative illustrations, this is the smart, playful and empowering book on consent that everyone has been waiting for.

Making it very clear to all children that they are in charge of their own bodies; they can decide what feels comfortable to them and have the right to say no to anything that is uncomfortable, and also the right to change their mind. I loved the style, the conciseness and directness. Could easily be used with children from KS1-KS3 in discussions and PHSE and RSE lessons. Childline phone number and website are provided on the last page.

A clear, concise introduction to the meaning of consent and respect, this book covers many different scenarios, including relationships with friends, parents and other adults. The use of short chapters, bold engaging illustrations and fun, informative text are perfect for use in the classroom and also for parents and carers to share with their children. My co-reviewer, aged 10, enjoyed the comic captions and illustrations and felt that the author conveyed an important message in a fun, straightforward way.

I especially liked the message, "Find your crew. Having people in your life support you, listen to you and respect you will help you thrive". Excellent advice for us all.

I liked reading this book because it was like a comic and the pictures made it really easy to understand. I have learnt a lot about consent and boundaries which I think are difficult things to explain to people my age. It has made me think a lot about my friends and feelings and the book had lots of ideas about what you can say and do to keep yourself safe.

Angelito Francisco - Age 8

I loved this book as it was full of great cartoons. It was really good as it had some really important messages about your body and how other people should respect you. It was funny to read too even though the message was really important.

It's a good book for both boys and girls. I think it would be a really good book for schools to use in PHSE lessons.

This book is excellent. The images in the book are depicted in an age-appropriate but humorous way, which finds the balance between being an entertaining but informative book, with a serious topic content-wise. I believe this use of humour to introduce such topics is a clever way of informing children, without frightening them but the author ensures that the humour stops so key messages are put across to the reader in the way that means they know they need to take the information in the book seriously. This book covers a wide range of topics, not just consent in terms of touching. For example, there is a section on information being shared online without consent and it covers issues that can arise with friendships, families, strangers as well as online.
A must-read for junior age children (age 7-11) but I think would appeal to slightly older children too.

I think this is a brilliant idea for a book. Described in a way that is so easily accessible, with entertaining illustrations to accompany the information. Respect is a must-have for all bookshelves to help children learn more about how to be the ruler of your own body, vocalise what they are comfortable with and how to respect what other people are comfortable with.

A great book that will help children understand more about their own autonomy in easy to understand and entertaining language.
