Amatullah Khatun - Age 10

It's the start of the summer holidays and unlike his best friends Charlie who is going to a vegan health camp, and Ben who is going away with his wicked step-mother, Freddie will be having a rather boring holiday stuck at home with his Dad and Grandma. However, he arrives home to be told his 'Grams' died and this is where it all goes downhill, for a while at least.

To say we loved this book is the understatement of the century. Amatullah whizzed through the book desperate to know what happens to Freddie and his friends. She laughed (snorted) so loud while she was reading to herself, she had us all intrigued.

This book deals with grief through humour but still manages to pull at your heartstrings. Rob Biddulph's illustrations catch the hilarity of the situations perfectly. A 5 star read.

After reading a letter from his Grams, Freddie decides to spend his holiday on a search for his biological Dad. He persuades his friends Billy and Charlie to come along for the ride and the three of them embark on the most unpredictable, disaster packed, hilarious and heartwarming journey!
The chapters are short and the pacing is spot-on, and our main trio are likeable and realistically written, even if their adventures are a little OTT! The facts that Freddie likes to collect and which appear throughout the book are fun and always relevant to the storyline. Whilst the book is incredibly funny, its themes of family and hope are what really make it shine.

I have really enjoyed reading this book. In some places it is so funny it has made me laugh out loud. Freddy Yates is a brilliant character, but my favourite is Sheila.
This book is really fantastic and loads of fun. I have not read this author before but I totally will be looking for more books like this in the future.

Sam - Age 10

This book is fantastic. I liked everything from cover to cover. It was exciting and it full of lots of funny characters, some of which include: Charlie, Ben, Freddie and Big Trev. The story is about three children who go on an adventure to Wales, to find Freddie's biological father. This miraculous journey takes them to different places where they participate in an onion eating contest, get involved in a robbery and become superheroes. I would recommend this book to anyone!

I loved this book! The cover and look of the book made me wonder if it would be similar to various of the books already popular with young boys (Wimpy Kid, Tom Gates, Captain Underpants etc) but in fact, this is a far more thoughtful book, which is genuinely moving, and also really funny.

The adventure the boys take is ridiculous but without any totally unbelievable plot leaps. Their relationship is well-drawn, with realistic ups and downs. The problems each boy is dealing with are relevant and sensitively described, from their own perspective. If I had any criticism, it would be that the problems of Freddie's friends were rather conveniently solved at the end without any detail, but as Freddie was the main character, I suppose his story was bound to take priority. My only other doubt (and I may be wrong) is whether some of the writing is perhaps too subtle for the intended age of readership. Some of the lines which brought a lump to my throat or made me laugh out loud may go over the heads of the younger readers. Each can get their own enjoyment out of the book though.

I passed it on to my 9-year-old daughter, and she loved it too, finding it silly and amusing, and also moving. She loved the antics the boys got up to on their journey, and the various characters they met along the way. We would both recommend this book whole-heartedly!

Aidan Jones - Age 8

This book was so, so, so, funny! Freddie goes on a journey with his two best friends, Charlie and Ben, to find his biological Dad. They end up in many pickles and lots of trouble! The funniest part was when they were being chased in a taxi and loads of sheep joined in the chase too! I really liked it when someone said they saw saints flying, but really it was the boys, in choir boy cassocks riding on bikes! I kept laughing and didn't want to stop reading!

This is the fast-paced and funny story of the unbelievable exploits of Freddie and his two best friends on a journey to find his biological dad. The story, which is both incredulous and irreverent, nonetheless succeeds in tackling some serious themes such as grief, loss and family relationships. At the end of his adventures which include brushes with superheroes, gangsters and sheep, Freddie finally comes to a deeper understanding of the true meaning of family.
