A Lion Is a Lion

I really liked this book and it made me laugh. My favourite part was when the lion dances down the street singing "Hoobie doobie doo" because I thought that was very funny!

Is a lion still a lion if he wears a hat?... or carries an umbrella?... or asks you to dance? This book will tell you how to deal with a very fierce lion!

We also liked it when they shouted "No, no, no" at the lion so he wouldn't eat them.

The pictures are good fun as they show you lots of things that would be very surprising is a lion did do them!

This is a great fun read-aloud book with a surprising twist in the story and the rhythm as you read.

I think the pictures in this book are really funny because I've never seen a lin wearing a hat and carrying an umbrella! It's a good book. I love it.

Beautifully illustrated. The pictures were easy to understand. I liked the danger, red pages... I am not going to eat red food for a while.

Is a lion still a lion if ... he wears a hat? And carries an umbrella, too?

And is a lion still a lion if he says "Oh yes, lunch would be lovely, thank you."

And he asks you for ... a BITE?

The message behind this book is really empowering to children, particularly before bedtime. If something scares you / tries to eat you ... chuck it out of your house and tell it "no! No! No! NO!" This is a lovely Book, really enjoyed by my 2 and 4 year olds.

Firstly, I would like to say how much my daughters and I loved Polly Dunbar's illustrations. My four year old told me "they were easy to understand". I think by this sh means that the pages weren't so busy that her 4-year-old brain suffered from sensory overload. I often find that books for children are so full of bright colours, big words, all singing and all dancing that children are so distracted that they lose the thread of the story. Not so with this book. The pictures are simple and beautifully drawn.

My children and I particularly liked the 'danger moments'. This is when the lion decides he would quite like to eat the children in the story. Cleverly, Dunbar uses the colour red as a page background which prompted a lot of discussion with my four-year-old about red meaning danger. She is apparently steering clear of red food for a while. The message behind this book is really empowering to children, particularly before bedtime.
