About The Mapmakers

Return to the spellbinding world of Cordelia Hatmaker in this soaring magical sequel to The Hatmakers. Perfect for fans of Nevermoor, A Pinch of Magic and Harry Potter.

Ever since Cordelia discovered the hidden map in her father's precious telescope, she's been searching the streets of London by starlight and trying to uncover its secrets. She's sure that her missing father is out there somewhere, and that if she follows his map, she'll finally discover the truth about his disappearance. She never expects to stumble upon a secret society of Mapmakers - or to learn that magic isn't limited to the few Maker families, but is instead is all around, if you just know where to look . . . But danger is lurking around every corner, and Cordelia must convince the rival Maker families to work together for once - not only to bring her father home, but to save the very essence of magic itself . . .

A gorgeous adventure from exceptional new storytelling talent, Tamzin Merchant, featuring beautiful illustrations by Paola Escobar.

Philippa Ferry - Age 9

Cordelia Hatmaker is back with a bang! A map leads her to a rather different library where she receives a unique message in a bottle, meaning she has inherited her father's place as a map maker. Herself and her fellow map makers must connect Merlin's map to stop Lord Witloof and they must also try to ensure the makers unite. Cordelia Hatmaker must look to the stars. Perfect for fans of Jessica Townsend, Emma Carroll and Anna James.

Cordelia, the Littlest Hatmaker, lives in Hatmaker House with Aunt Ariadne, Uncle Tiberius and Great-aunt Petronella. Her father, Prospero, has been missing since his ship, the Jolly Bonnet, sank in a storm. Cordelia believes her father is still alive and has found a magic map inside her father’s telescope. She is now trying to unravel the secret of the map in order to find her father. Her friends, Sam Lightfinger, a young street urchin, and Goose, a member of the Bootmakers family, are helping her.

The map leads Cordelia to the secret Society of Mapmakers, but then her arch enemy, Lord Witloof, destroys the library housing the maps, and Cordelia realises that she needs to unite the Makers in order to try to defeat Lord Witloof and find her father. This is easier said than done because there has been hostility between the different Makers families for over thirty years. As well as this, Lord Witloof has dire plans for the Harvest Masque and has two fearful weapons – Leechglass and the Harpy.

The Mapmakers is an admirable sequel to The Hatmakers. It is another page-turner with the same level of excitement and imaginative description. However, the plot is more detailed and complicated than the first book with characterisation and relationships being developed further. It is yet another fantastic read for young fans of magic, adventure and bravery.
