Books By Rosina Umelo - Author

Rosina Martin (Rose) was born in 1931 and grew up in Frodsham, Cheshire, then a small market town. After securing a BA in Latin at Bedford College, London University, she worked for London County Council at County Hall on the Thames and met Igbo John Umelo one cold morning on Royal Oak station. They were married in 1961 and travelled in 1964 by sea with their young children to Nigeria where Rose had an appointment as an Education Officer at Queen's School, Enugu. When the Biafran war started and the capital was under threat, they all fled to John's home village, Nsokpo Ogbaku. Her real-time observations of life there and later in Alaenyi Ogwa through the war (and more besides) are in Surviving Biafra, a Nigerwife's story, co-authored with Prof. Elizabeth Bird, University of South Florida (Hurst 2018). Rose has written youth fiction extensively, including four titles in Macmillan's Pacesetter series. She is now a widow and lives with her first daughter in Dagenham.
