This book follows the story of a girl named Joanna and her best friend who happens to be a dragon called Flying Excelsior. Joanna’s normal mundane life of household chores and doing her homework gets turned on its head when, she becomes the youngest dragon flyer in the country. Along with the glamour and the glory, comes envy from her competitors eager to see her fail. Terrible danger ensues and she will need all of her skills and a great deal of help from her best friend to survive. An out of this world-exciting story about friendship and loyalty. If you enjoyed Salamanda Drake's debut Dragonsdale, then you'll love this.

Synopsis

Dragon Racer by Margaret Bateson-hill

Joanna Morris’s life is about to change for ever. School, homework, even her family take second place when she shoots to stardom as the youngest racing dragon flyer in the country! Flying Excelsior, the beautiful silver spiked-back dragon, is more exciting than anything she’s ever known, and he’s soon the best friend she’s ever had. But beneath the glamour and beauty of dragon racing lie terrible jealousies and resentments. Marius King is used to being the number one dragon owner and he’s prepared to do anything to win – even if that means putting his rivals into terrible danger….

About the Author

Margaret Bateson-hill

"My name is Margaret Bateson-Hill I was born and grew up in Blackpool, Lancashire. At university I studied Drama and English, going on to run drama workshops for children.

I live in Brixton in South East London, one of the cross-roads of our world where many cultures and peoples meet and an ideal place from which to travel into the world of story.

My hobbies include singing and reading- infact I like to read all the time! My favourite children's books are The Earthsea Books by Ursula Le Guinn-especially good if you are fond of dragons; but I have also really enjoyed Exodus by Julie Bertanga, Troy by Adele Geras, Coram Boy by Jamila Gavin, The Wind Singer Trilogy by William Nicholson and The Kite Rider by Geraldine McCaughrean as well as the Harry Potter books and Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials Trilogy. My favourite adult writers are Jane Austen, Jeanette Winterson, Margaret Atwood and Alice Hoffman."
