The Lovereading4Kids comment

New from the creator of The Girl with the Parrot on her Head, this is another witty, eye-catching picture book that adults will enjoy as much as children. Once there was Natalie – a bright image shows a happy, beaming monster swinging on the arms of two parent monsters. And then there was Alphonse too: Natalie’s look says it all, and on the opposite page a gurning blue baby monster gazes out from a buggy. Mostly they have fun together but when Alphonse eats Natalie’s favourite book, she loses her temper and retreats into the bath. Hirst’s bold, bright screenprint illustrations are wonderfully expressive – there’s a fabulous picture of Natalie in her bath towel looking simultaneously guilty, repentant and worried –and this is a very funny and perceptive depiction of early sibling relationships. ~ Andrea Reece

Synopsis

Alphonse, That is Not Ok to Do! by Daisy Hirst

From the remarkable new talent behind The Girl With the Parrot on Her Head comes a story about two monster siblings, Natalie and Alphonse. Natalie mostly loves her little brother Alphonse being there - they name the pigeons, bounce things off the bunk beds, have stories in the chair and make lots of fun stuff together. But, when Natalie catches Alphonse eating her most favourite book, well ...that is not OK!

Daisy's expressive, bold illustration and unique picture book voice will enchant and charm all readers in this truly original new title.

Reviews

This is a very funny, most colourful book about sibling rivalry with hilarious scenes and great expressions. Review Reader, Lovereading 4 Kids

Daisy Hirst's Alphonse, That is Not Ok To Do! is an empathy and understanding-building picture book that every family book shelf should have, since it relates to a scenario that almost every child has found him or herself in. [...] An uproarious, colourful exploration of what is not ok to do, by the creator of the fabulous The Girl with the Parrot on Her Head. The Herald

Hirst's approach is playful and eye-catching. [...] It's a story written with a benignly anarchic wit - and, refreshingly, it comes with no moral tacked on. The Observer

Daisy Hirst's narrative voice is spot on, her monsters are adorable and I love the chucklesome humour in her illustrations, which are a perfect complement to that deliciously droll text of hers. Alphonse and Natalie could run and run... Red Reading Hub

A fun, perceptive and colourful story Juno
