The Lovereading4Kids comment

A feast of invention is jam-packed into the latest in the best-selling ‘ology’ series. More fanciful than most, Alienology creates an enormous gallery of different kinds of aliens, extra terrestrials and space visitors investing them with enough substance to make them credible – almost! Masses of information, story telling, illustration and useful tips on how to spot aliens is crammed into these visually thrilling and creative pages.

As well as Alienology the book, you can also visit Alienology the Digital Experience - a new, interactive digital adventure from Templar Publishing where recruits can play games, answer quizzes and download animated messages and ringtones. Alienology by Dugald A. Steer

These are just some of the questions posed by shape-shifting Professor Allen Gray, the alien author of Alienology: The Complete Guide to Extraterrestrials.

Professor Gray tests readers to see who has what it takes to become a member of the Intergalactic Council and help save the world in the battle against S.L.I.M.E. (Surface-Living Intelligent Multiplying Endolith). Potential recruits must demonstrate their intelligence by exploring the universe and solving a series of out-of-this-world logic tests along the way, including brainteasers and alien codes.

About the Author

With what trepidation I sat down to give my editorial attentions to what was clearly the masterwork of a very erudite man, should be obvious to all who read his book. So begins a brief letter from Dugald Steer to an Oxford friend, written in 1894. The letter goes on to explain how Mr. Steer was at that time dividing his time between his lodgings in West Wimbledon and the picturesque Surrey hamlet of Effingham, writing and editing volumes for children when a chance meeting with Dr. Ernest Drake in the Bull's Head Tavern in Dorking made him more than a little curious. Sceptical at first, he therefore took up Dr. Drake's offer to meet him at his house and tour St. Leonard's Forest, where he would have been introduced to the local dragon, had it not taken up residence in the basement of the old Mill building that was the reason for Dr. Drake's visit to Dorking. Mr. Steer then agreed to attend one of the Secret and Ancient Society of Dragonologists meetings organised by Dr. Drake where he became further involved in Dr. Drake's work, joining him and Douglas Carrel on his expedition to Scotland to try and estimate the hunting range of the Dornoch Wyrm. As he writes, this trip was, a cause of some emotion, as many of my relatives, particularly the Ross branch, come from so near. Other books that Mr. Steer is known to have written or contributed to include a selection of children's illustrated titles such as Alison Jay's Picture This and just One More Story among many others.
