The Lovereading4Kids comment

A Lovereading4kids 'Great Read' you may have missed 2011 selection.

Let’s hear it for the book! A great joke lies at the heart of this story about the battle between old and new technologies. Jackass cannot get his head round what his friend Monkey is doing. The object that is so absorbing him has no screen and no mouse; it can’t text and it can’t tweet. And yet….Once Jackass has had a turn he doesn’t want to give it back. Lane Smith’s simple and bold illustrations carry the point perfectly.

Synopsis

It's a Book! by Lane Smith

A wry exchange between an IT-savvy donkey, a book-loving ape and a mouse forms this playful and lighthearted examination of print as a medium in the digital age. With a subversive and signature Lane Smith twist, this satisfying, perfectly executed picture book has something to say about the importance of reading to children and adults alike.

Reviews

A work of genius * Sunday Telegraph * a charming defence of the book as we know it . . . funny, with entertaining repetitions and surprises, and a punch line * Sunday Times * Those of us for whom books are a faith in themselves - who find the notion that pixels, however ordered, could be any kind of substitute for the experience of reading in a chair with the strange thing spread open on our lap - will love this book. * The New York Times * a very cute book, short and sweet * Wired *
