The Lovereading4Kids comment
Pacy and fun, this series is a great way to tap into the history, and give your children a real sense of what life was like, in Ancient Rome. Blood and Sand is the third title in the Gladiator School series.
The first book in the series, Blood Oath, was reviewed by our Lovereading panel...here's a taster of what they thought...Action, mystery and everything else inside this book will make you read on. I want the next book!!!..and...The gladiators fights were really exciting and sometimes I wasn't sure if they would live or die!! Read all the reviews here.
Blood and Sand by Dan Scott
Lucius is back in Rome, reunited with his old friend Isidora. Together they look after the wild beasts that will hunt, fight - and die - in the arena. Emperor Titus has decreed a hundred days of games to celebrate the opening of his new amphitheatre. Lucius's brother, the famous gladiator Quintus Felix, will once again face death or glory in the games. Meanwhile, Lucius's father is still on the run. How can Lucius convince the emperor that his father is innocent?
“The gladiators fights were really exciting and sometimes I wasn’t sure if they would live or die. If you like adventures with a touch of mystery you will love this book.” Sam Harper, age 9, LoveReading4kids reader review of Book 1: Blood Oath
“There are fights in dusty arenas, traitors, disappearances, family loyalty, criminals and gladiatorial games. All very exciting and a great adventurous read for kids that like a bit of action and a bit of history in their novels. My son said these books were really exciting.” Becky Goddard-Hill, Book Reviews for Mums review of Book 2: Blood & Fire
