The Lovereading4Kids comment

This highly desirable, collectible classic series has been updated for a new generation by award-winning poet, Tony Mitton. Award-winning UK poet, Tony Mitton, has worked closely with Dick Bruna's Dutch publisher to create new translations for the classic Miffy stories that are true to the books' original voice, and yet have a contemporary feel to the language that makes them appealing to the modern young audience. The translations beautifully convey the warmth and friendliness of the original Dutch whilst maintaining a style that is inimitably Miffy.

Synopsis

Miffy at School by Dick Bruna

Join Miffy at school, where she learns to draw, write, read and sing. But Miffy's favourite thing is when the teacher reads the class a story.

Small, square and always with a robust, hardback cover, Dick Bruna’s iconic picture books about the little white bunny called Miffy, have been treasured by millions of British households since they were first published in the UK in the early Sixties. Excitingly, for the first time in almost 50 years, the rhyming verse in each Miffy story in Bruna’s bestselling children’s storybooks has been refreshed for a modern British audience - by award-winning children's author and poet, Tony Mitton to suit the ears of today’s toddlers and pre-schoolers. Alongside the new texts, Dick Bruna’s illustrations – simple, bold and timeless – remain the same throughout.

About the Author

Dick Bruna

Dick Bruna was born in Utrecht on 23 August 1927 – the year of the rabbit, according to the Japanese zodiac. As the son of a publisher, Dick was introduced to books and authors at an early age. He grew up in Zeist, surrounded by chickens, rabbits, dogs and a goat, and enjoyed a wonderful childhood with his brother Frits.

Though he began by training in publishing, Dick really wanted to be an artist, drawing inspiration from the bold use of colour by masters such as Leger and Matisse. After marrying his wife Irene in 1952, Dick took up a permanent position as a designer in the family’s publishing firm, A.W. Bruna & Zoon.

In 1975, Dick decided to work for himself, and the Miffy series really took off. He also started accepting poster and card commissions for organisations including Unicef, the Netherlands Red Cross, The Hague, Amnesty International and the Netherlands Dairies.

Now 87 years old, Dick Bruna continues to delight children and adults the world over with his enchanting drawings and stories. His work has won numerous awards and has featured in many prestigious exhibitions around the world.
