The Lovereading4Kids comment

Shortlisted for the 2016 Prime Minister’s Literary Award Through a simple, repetitive text and warm, expressive illustrations, author and artist convey a real sense of the way a young child sees Dad, and of the loving relationship between them. Double pages explain the different ways in which Dad is like a bear: he’s tall and round, has big paws like a bear; he can growl like a bear, and he even sleeps like a bear. And when questioned, ‘Dad, are you really a bear?’ he responds by doing what bears do best, giving a bear hug. The bear is a realistic, solid, shaggy creature, and the metaphor of the title and the opening line make total sense; Dad is friendly, playful, but above all a reliable, reassuring presence. Tender, funny and full of charm. ~ Andrea Reece

A Piece of Passion from Sophia Whitfiled, Publisher : I loved this the lyrical tale exemplifies the relationship between father and son. Told from the perspective of a bear, the young bear observes his father in awe doing simple daily tasks. With her simple text Nicola Connelly highlights the loving bond between Father Bear and Baby Bear. The delightful illustrations create an old world charm that makes this a perfect book for father and son to share together on Father’s Day.
