With a foreword by Bruce Parry, comes a courageous book telling you everything you might possibly want to know about survival in freezing conditions. Indeed if only Captain Scott had read it before setting off on his adventures then he might have won his race after all. Basic things such as what to bring, wear and how to relieve oneself in the Arctic are all covered in great detail! This book confirms the Arctic as being a most hostile environment, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all have fun in it.
Over the last five years the BBC have taken groups to the world's most inhospitable places for Serious Jungle, Serious Amazon, Serious Desert, Serious Andes and Serious Arctic. This is what they had to learn to survive! The Serious Survival team shares first hand experiences with essential tips from participants and expedition leaders. Dive headfirst into jungles, canyons, sand-dunes and glaciers and discover the planet’s most colourful wildlife. Follow fascinating environmental projects such as building camel enclosures, removing illegal fishing nets and tracking polar bears. Serious Survival gives you the best advice on where to go, who to go with and what to take to ensure that you come back in one piece. A must for every budding traveller.
'These incredible projects are the best form of reality TV, encouraging the nobility of their participants rather than, Big Brother style, finding ways to bring out their weaknesses.' The Guardian
'Encouraging a spirit of adventure and pushing adolescents through gruelling conditions.' The Daily Telegraph
