The Lovereading4Kids comment

A heart-warming story of two dogs who’s crosses the strict doggy social divide. Esme is a posh poodle living in a pent house apartment. Sam is mongrel living in a crowded tenement. How they meet, fall in love and, most importantly convince Esme’s owner that they can stay together is a delicious story told in verse against a beautiful, fully illustrated background of New York. About the Author

Gillian Shields

Gillian Shields was born and brought up in Yorkshire. As she grew up, she had two passions; books and theatre. Gillian’s love of books led her to read English at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. After university she studied acting in London, and then worked in a drama school for several years, becoming Vice-Principal.

Having children gave Gillian an excuse to carry on reading children’s books, as well as motivation to write them. She has a young son and a grown-up daughter, and is married to Brian, who works for the International Herald Tribune.
