The Lovereading4Kids comment

A collection of nine absolutely charming short stories about friendship, dancing, memories, and lots of cake, all set in a wonderful world created by the author. This delightful title contains a forest, a river, an ocean, an oak tree and lots and lots of animals and of course a world of imagination where anything is possible. These wonderful whimsical animal tales are perfectly complemented by Jessica Ahlberg’s delicate illustrations in this collection of lyrical stories that will captivate readers of all ages.

A sister book to this beautifully packaged little gift hardback isLetters to Anyone and Everyone.

A message from Wendy Cooling, children’s books author and editor:
‘Toon’s stories are beautifully told, quirky, and delightful, and have the warmth of the wonderful Pooh stories. Jessica Ahlberg’s illustrations perfectly complement the mood of the writing, they’re a joy!’

The Squirrel's Birthday and Other Parties by Toon Tellegen

A whale and a seagull dance silently on a moon-drenched beach. A grasshopper pays a fortune for a speck of dust. A squirrel and an ant discover a mysterious feast, with an invisible host, in the depths of a forest. In his philosophical animal tales, Toon Tellegen creates surreal stories and charming characters that will capture the imaginations of readers everywhere. Perfectly complemented by Jessica Ahlberg's delicate illustrations, this collection of short stories is intelligent, moving and funny.

I can't recommend this collection of animal stories enough, it's enchanting and full of cake! Western Morning News A fascinating and delicious treat for dreamy, introspective readers of all ages. Books for Keeps Funny, offbeat and highly imaginative. Carousel

Toon Tellegen, born in Den Briel in 1941, is considered one of Holland’s finest poets and his work has been awarded many literary prizes. He has published more than twenty collections to date. While he considers himself in the first place a poet, he is also a well-known children’s book writer, whose animal stories delight children and adults alike. In addition he has also written novels for adults and several plays. Tellegen works as a GP and lives in Amsterdam with his wife.

Translations of Tellegen’s poems have been published in reviews and anthologies in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Russia. His poetry has also been widely published in British and American journals, and has been very well received. One of Tellegen’s collections, In N.., was translated into English and published in 1993 by Cross-Cultural Communications in New York. A more recent collection of translations, About love and about nothing else, has just been completed and will hopefully find a publisher in the not too distant future.
