The Lovereading4Kids comment

Information-packed, this book gives all kinds of facts about life in the trenches including the behind-the-scenes things that soldiers in World War One had to deal with. Comic illustrations vividly bring to life the danger, hunger, cold and horrors of dealing with rats and lice! The light hearted style which includes lots of jokes in no way diminishes the grim reality of soldier’s lives and what they achieved.

Synopsis

You Wouldn't Want to be in the Trenches in World War One! by Alex Woolf

From sharing your bed with rats and lice to a diet of bully beef, bread and biscuits, discover why you really wouldn't want to be a soldier living in a trench during World War One. Handy hints include how to protect your feet from trenchfoot, how to use pigeons as spies, and how to detect enemy tunnelling beneath your trench.

You Wouldn’t Want to Be in the Trenches in World War One is the fantastic new title in the enormously popular You Wouldn’t Want to Be series. With the centenary of the start of World War One approaching, this title provides an informative, compelling and humorous way to learn about this hugely important time in history.

You Wouldn’t Want to Be (previously branded as The Danger Zone in the UK) is a constantly-growing library of over 70 exciting titles which has sold 3 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 20 different languages. It is an immensely entertaining and educational series revealing the ‘warts and all’ truth about life in different historical periods. Richly illustrated throughout with whimsical and informative artwork, these books provide an invaluable insight and a wealth of solid information combined with grisly facts!

Each title supports the National Curriculum in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Scottish 5–14 Guidelines and is also an excellent resource for literacy.
