The Lovereading4Kids comment
A bad, bad burglar and a good, good dog make an unusual and unhappy pair. Rob the burglar likes nothing more than committing a crime. Bob, his dog, hates the life of crime and likes doing good in the world. He dreams of being a normal dog in a normal family. But how can Bob’s dream come true? When Rob steals some presents from sleeping children Bob takes them back again and suddenly, a whole new and happy life is offered to him. A funny and touching story.

Bob and Rob by Sue Pickford
Rob is a burglar and he's bad. Really bad. Bob is his dog, and he is really good, baking cakes and helping old ladies across the road. But he remains faithful to his horrible owner, helping him with robberies. One night Bob and Rob see some inviting packages through the window of a house, and can't resist stealing them all. When the parcels turn out to be children's toys Rob is disgusted, but Bob feels sorry for the children and returns the toys.
The ending sees Rob behind bars, while Bob is adopted by the family to whom he returned the toys. He now has a lovely life as a proper dog, with no more robbing and stealing.
