About the Author

JOHN HEGLEY was born in north London and brought up in Luton. He now lives in Islington. His eight collections of adult verse have mostly been published by Methuen, and he has two children's books in print: My Dog is a Carrot, (2002, reissued 2007 Walker) and Monsieur Robinet, a dual-language storybook, pub Donut Press. He started out as a stand-up comedian/poet, performing his work on the festival and comedy circuit and he became something of a cult performer from the early 80s onwards. He has recently started to direct his writing and performances more towards children, but generally his shows will delight all ages. He plays the ukulele as part of his poetry performances. He is a Fellow of the English Association. John Hegley lives in north London.

Stanley's Stick

Stanley's Stick

Author: John Hegley Format: Paperback / softback Release Date: 05/04/2012

Stanley's Stick is a teaming-up of hefty talents - glorious poet John Hegley and award-winning illustrator Neal Layton. Stanley's stick is not just a stick. With a stick in hand, Stanley's options are endless - he flies to the moon, writes in the sand, goes fishing, plays a whistle and rides a dinosaur - and his imagination takes over and the magic begins. Hegley's lyrical prose captures the free-wheeling expressiveness of childhood, and Layton's deceptively simple illustrations are full of wit and character. Sweet, magical and thoroughly entertaining, this is Hegley and Layton's first collaboration.

My Dog Is a Carrot

My Dog Is a Carrot

Author: John Hegley Format: Paperback / softback Release Date: 01/10/2007

A delightful collection of quirky poems by one of this country's most popular poets. Enter the celebrated poet's weird, witty, bespectacled world and meet the organic leek who has learned to speak, the octopus who gets a nasty shocktopus, the man who drew his cornflakes and a whole cast of other interesting characters. Surprising, serious, and sometimes just plain silly, this is a collection of poems even your dog might like. Unless your dog is a carrot too.
