A Julia Eccleshare Pick of the Month April 2020 | Stylish and beautifully conceived, this entertaining new picture book by artist/ designer Marion Deuchars is a visual treat as well as a strong story about artistic competition - and collaboration. Bob loves making art and is very jealous when everyone starts talking about Roy, the amazing new artist in town. His work is apparently fantastic! Who is this new artist and what is so special about his work? Why is he the best in town? Bob does everything he can to compete with Roy until he realises that working together might be more fun!
Shortlisted for the UKLA Book Awards 2019 | A beautiful picture book about friendship and art. Bob and Bat are best friends. They do everything together (look out for the wonderful illustration of them dancing to the radio!) but best of all they love painting. Then one day Bat leaves a note for Bob explaining that he has to go away for a while. Bob is bereft, indeed just how sad is clear not just in his attitude, but in his paintings: whatever he paints is blue, representative of the big blue hole where Bat used to be. Fortunately his other friends come to his help, opening his eyes to the colourful beauty and hope of a sun rise, and shortly after that, Bat returns too. This is simply gorgeous to look at, and opens up all sorts of discussions about friendship, resilience, art and expression.
In this imaginative activity book, Marion Deuchars makes learning about art fun. Young readers discover new ways of making art by being introduced to 18 great artists, learning about the methods, materials and ideas that made up their masterpieces and how these can be applied to one's own creations. Grouped into sections by artist, each one unfolds a series of creative projects in drawing, painting, printing and collage based on the artist's own methods and materials. At the end of the book is a series of biographies about each artist providing the background on how they became artistic geniuses. Take your pencil for a walk in the spirit of Paul Klee, experiment with colour and texture like Joan Miro or create your own surrealist-inspired artwork like Salvador Dali.
Based on the bestselling Let's Make Some Great Art, Marion Deuchars has devised some fun and educational art activities to keep kids young and old occupied at mealtimes. Featuring 36 generously sized mats printed on art activity paper, and nine different designs, including three all-new illustrations. Make up your own pasta shapes. Picture your favourite meal. Draw Mona Lisa's smile. Invent a meal for an alien. Let's Make Some Great Placemat Art!
In this interactive colouring and activity book, Marion Deuchars takes the broad canvas of ART and fills it with drawings and activities that let you discover what art can be, how it can be made, what it can mean for you and what it has meant for people through the ages. You can complete the Mona Lisa's smile, or design your own Jackson Pollock-inspired work with a marble, a tray, some paint and paper.
