Ajuan Mance is a visual artist, an author, an editor, and a professor of English at Mills College in Oakland, California. Inspired by Richard Scarry's What Do People Do All Day?, she created the groundbreaking series 1001 Black Men, a collection of portraits produced over six and a half years that later evolved into this book.
