We are very excited to announce that we’re supporting Pearson’s My Twist on a Tale: Our Tomorrow writing competition – a free, national competition which encourages 4–19 year olds to unleash their fortune-telling skills, as they cast their minds ahead to the future and produce creative reflections on what it might hold.

The competition aims to empower children and young people, from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 5, to look to the future, and invent their most imaginative responses. Whether composing a personal letter to their 100-year-old self, writing a rap about what their town might look like in twenty years’ time, or re-imagining a classic tale with a sci-fi-style makeover, this is a fantastic chance for young people to put themselves on the page, and explore their creative visions of life to come.

To expand the scope for young writers as widely as possible, this year the competition will welcome creative non-fiction entries in addition to stories and poems. While the winners will see their works published as an illustrated collection for all to read, as well as in a selection of audio stories, we hope everyone who takes part enjoys finding their voice, expressing themselves freely and having fun along the way!

Why?

Because diversity, inclusion and relatability matter. They matter in the literature we consume and the books, poetry and plays we put in front of our children. Like Pearson, we believe that at whatever age – from early stages to adulthood – people should feel represented in the literature they read and the stories they write.

My Twist on a Tale: Our Tomorrow, empowers children and young people to become the creator of their own forward-focused piece in fiction, non-fiction or poetry.

Entries can be submitted until 5pm on Friday 26 November 2021. To learn more and download your free entry pack, visit the website.
